Tackling poverty and injustice in the Middle East

Your lasting legacy

Embrace the Middle East is a Christian charity with over 160 years’ experience helping people of all faiths and none to free themselves from a life of poverty and injustice.

Together with local Christian communities we’re bringing lasting change to the Middle East through healthcare, education and community development projects. We work in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt.

Leaving a gift in your will to Embrace makes a transformative difference to people across the Middle East. Legacy gifts are vital to seeing lives changed: 1 in 4 projects are only possible because of people who leave us gifts in their will.

Together we can change lives
Zabaleen is an Egyptian Arabic word which literally means garbage people and describes a marginalised community who have been Cairo’s informal garbage collectors since the 1940s. The work is back-breaking, there is little access to education, the living conditions are dire and the health of men, women and children is very poor.

Because of a generous legacy gift of £50,000 we were able to support the Salaam Centre who provide essential services to the Zabaleen community. The incredible gift funded a women’s service including health clinics and workshops, offering information, support, and hope for a brighter future, to Zabaleen women living with the effects of addiction.

The support the Salaam Centre offered would not have been possible without this particular legacy gift. Vital work medical and social support would not have been available. But instead, good health and hope was given to women and in turn their families.

Legacy gifts make change possible
One in four of the projects Embrace funds have only been possible due to gifts left in wills. The support of people who leave us legacies is absolutely critical.

Another project provided by the Salaam Centre is a women’s work co-operative. After receiving micro-loans from and training at the Centre, small groups of women set up cottage industries creating high quality clothes which they then sell. The women gain skills, build friendships and are able to support their families. The project has been so successful it is now self-sustaining and we no longer support it financially which is a fantastic outcome.

Legacy gifts really do multiply and grow; the effect on individuals, families and communities continues to ripple outwards, changing lives forever.

Stewarding our resources wisely, thoughtfully and prayerfully honours God
‘But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.’ 2 Corinthians 8:7

Writing a will is one example of being a responsible steward. Making sure your wishes are recorded legally and clearly allows you to make sure that, even after you are gone, His gifts to us can continue to be used as testimony to His goodness.

Everything we have comes from Him, and as well as providing for family and friends, leaving a legacy to Embrace helps to ensure that the support you have given us and our partners during your lifetime will continue.

We will remember you…
The names of people who leave a legacy to Embrace are written in our Book of Remembrance, which is on permanent display in our head office. We also remember them in prayer at Embrace Day, our annual service of celebration and thanksgiving, held every autumn.

Thank you
