Getting you back to work

You can make a difference to the lives of the veterans of tomorrow by taking a few moments to think of our Armed Forces today

The Poppy Factory is an independent charity specialising in supporting veterans with disabilities into meaningful and sustainable employment. We are probably best known for employing veterans in our factory producing poppies and wreaths for Remembrance activities such a Remembrance Day. We work closely with the Royal British Legion but are a separate charity. The Poppy Factory’s focus is supporting veterans with physical and mental health challenges into employment.

Our Founder, Major Howson MC established The Poppy Factory in 1922 and the first veterans he employed were those who had lost limbs in The Great War. While setting up The Poppy Factory, he penned in a letter to his parents “I consider the attempt ought to be made, if only to give the disabled their chance”. This sentiment still holds true to this very day and drives everything that we do.

In the UK, it is estimated there are over 20,000 veterans with disabilities, long term illness or wider health challenges. Recognising this we established The “Getting You Back to Work” (GYBTW) programme, our national employability service in 2010. So far we have helped over 900 veterans into work but there are thousands more that need our help and we aim to ensure no veteran is held back by their disability.
