The Mammal Society

We carry out research and produce recommendations for policy makers, landowners and ecologists. Studies such as our 2018 Review of the Population and Conservation Status of Britain’s Mammals highlighted the current plight of many of the nation’s mammals, several of which are dangerously close to becoming extinct, and our research on hedgehog road casualties highlights areas where interventions might be most effective.

Unlike most organisations monitoring British wildlife, we receive no central government funding for our core work. Our activities to halt the decline of threatened species, monitor their conservation status and advise on issues affecting British mammals, depends entirely on the generosity of our supporters.

A gift left in your will helps us continue our work to:

• research the causes of mammal declines and find effective solutions;
• advocate robust, science-led conservation policy;
• raise public awareness of mammals, their ecology and conservation needs;
• develop the knowledge and field skills of those working for mammals;
• encourage people to participate in mammal monitoring and recording.
