Winston’s Wish supports children, young people and their families after the death of a parent or sibling.

Every day in the UK 100 children lose a mum or dad. The effect on a young life can be devastating. Many will struggle to understand what’s happened and find it hard to express what they feel.

Without help, bereaved children are more likely to develop mental health problems, fall behind at school or to turn to alcohol or drugs. They are at greater risk of drifting into offending.

At Winston’s Wish we listen and we talk. We can’t bring back a parent, but we can help children understand their emotions and provide a safe place for them to grieve. Over time we help them make sense of what’s happened and learn to live with their loss.

But there are many children we’re not yet reaching. And we won’t stop until every child in the UK has access to support when they need it.

In the next five years we want to double the numbers of children and young people we support each year. To do that we will pioneer a 21st century model of support fit for the digital age, play our part in revolutionising the provision of inclusive, open-access child bereavement support in the UK, and do everything we can to transform attitudes to bereavement in childhood.
